Discerning between live and dead cells is an important step in most tissue culture applications, because it is an assessment of a culture’s health.  The design of experiments relies upon using a specific initial number of living cells to maintain consistency between experiments and to allow comparison of the effects of various culture conditions.  AMRESCO's Quick-ViewTM Fluorescent Viability Stain offers easy identification of live and dead cells. Cell-permeable acridine orange penetrates all cells and imparts green fluorescence.  Ethidium bromide, however, can only penetrate the membranes of dying cells and upon doing so it imparts red fluorescence that dominates the green fluorescence.  The result is red-stained dead cells and green-stained live cells.

Quick-View™ Fluorescent Viability Stain

Quick-View™ staining of hybridoma cells. Cell concentration was adjusted to 1x106 cells/ml and diluted 1:1 with Quick-View™ (N600). A 20 ul aliquot of the cell suspension was loaded onto a hemacytometer and imaged through fluorescence microscopy.
Quick-View™ Fluorescent Viability Stain is a ready-to-use staining reagent for easy discrimination between live and dead mammalian cells. Supplied in an easy-to-use dropper bottle, the single staining solution is a mixture of Acridine Orange for live cell identification and Ethidium Bromide for identification of dead cells. The Acridine Orange stained live cells appear green and Ethidium Bromide stained dead cells appear red when visualized by fluorescence microscopy.

The Quick-View™ Fluorescent Viability Stain is sensitive, fast and reliable. The cells and stain solution are simply mixed 1:1 and are immediately ready for visualization. Washing, incubation and fixation steps are eliminated. The set up, clean up and storage is simple and easy with minimal contact with reagents. The versatile stain can be used for both cells in suspension as well as adherent cells.
